Grants Program
As part of its longstanding mission of celebrating and supporting the very best in theatre, the American Theatre Wing provides funding to New York City not-for-profit theatre organizations to both honor and sustain their work. In 2006, 53 companies received support from the American Theatre Wing.

ATW grants are made annually in December; the application deadline for 2007 grants has passed. The 2007 Guidelines are published below. Guidelines and applications for 2008 grants will be posted on this website in the spring of 2008.

General Criteria
  • Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in New York City, whose primary activities center on dramatic and/or musical theater.
  • While ATW grants are for general operating support, grants are predominantly for producing organizations, or organizations that undertake workshops and/or readings; they must operate under an agreement with Actors Equity Association.
  • Preference will be given to organizations that have produced at least two shows within the past year and that have scheduled at least two productions in the coming season. Developmental companies must demonstrate a consistent program of workshops and or readings.
  • Organizations in their first year of existence will not be considered.
  • ATW determines the amount granted at its sole discretion. Do not make a specific monetary request part of the application.
Required Materials - applications that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be considered.
