Len Cariou
LEN CARIOU is a three-time Tony nominee, for Applause, A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and a Tony winner as Best Actor for the latter. His other Broadway credits include Nightwatch, Cold Storage, Teddy & Alice, Dance a Little Closer, The Speed of Darkness, The Dinner Party and Proof. He has toured nationally in Show Boat and as Nils Bohr in Copenhagen. He is honored to be a member of the Theatre Hall of Fame. His onscreen performance in One Man garnered him a Genie Award, Canada's Oscar, for Best Actor. His films include The Four Seasons, Executive Decision, Thirteen Days and About Schmidt. On television, he has guest-starred on The Practice, The West Wing, Law & Order and The Outer Limits. He enjoyed recurring roles as Sgt. Swift in Swift Justice, and most notably, as Det. Michael Haggerty opposite Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote. TV movies include: Surviving, Man in the Attic, Who Will Save Our Children, There Were Times Dear, Miracle on Route 880, Killer in the Mirror, Hallmark's The Summer of Ben Tyler and Nuremberg. His classical stage repertoire include the title roles in King Lear (twice!), Oedipus, Macbeth, Cyrano, and Coriolanus, as well as Iago, Petruchio, Prospero and others. Off-Broadway, he has played Ernest Hemingway in Papa, William O. Douglas in Mountain and Joseph Stalin in Master Class. He is a former Artistic Director of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, and former Associate Director of the Guthrie Theatre. He most recent appearances include the films Boynton Beach Club and Flags of Our Fathers, the Showtime series, Brotherhood, and the Geffen Playhouse production of All My Sons.
