Jack Tantleff
JACK TANTLEFF began his career working in Broadway and Off-Broadway management and production. In 1979, at the age of 21 he was the Associate Producer of the Off¬Broadway production of Lone Star & Pvt. Wars by James McLure at the Century Theatre. He was the company manager of such notable productions as David Mamet's American Buffalo starring Al Pacino; A.R. Gurney's The Dining Room; and the original New York production of Jerry's Girls. In 1986, he opened The Tantleff Office in a corner of his apartment. His eclectic clientele included playwrights, writers for film and television, directors, choreographers, and designers. Four years later he became the first tenant in the Tribeca Film Center. In 1991 his client Marsha Norman won a Tony Award for her book of The Secret Garden, and the following year he represented the Tony Award-winning Best Play Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. Following these successes, in 1993 The Tantleff Office expanded to represent actors and actresses as well. He was instrumental in bringing the critically acclaimed musical Side Show to Broadway, representing most of the creative team, including composer Henry Krieger, book writer and lyricist Bill Russell, director and choreographer Robert Longbottom, costume designer Gregg Barnes, orchestrator Harold Wheeler, and music director David Chase. He also represented a number of company members, including Norm Lewis and its Tony-nominated star Emily Skinner. More recently, he played a significant part in the development of the Broadway musicals The Full Monty, Hairspray, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Other notable clients include playwrights Jeffrey Hatcher, Arthur Kopit, Mark O'Donnell, and Aaron Sorkin, designer David Rockwell, composer/lyricist David Yazbek, and directors David Esbjornson, Des McAnuff, and Francesca Zambello. For three years, beginning in April 2000, Mr. Tantleff was head of the Literary Division in the New York and Los Angeles offices of Abrams Artists Agency. In June 2003 he joined William Morris Agency as a senior vice president and co-head of Theatre. In 2005, William Morris Theatre clients received 21 separate Tony nominations. Mr. Tantleff is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, where he studied with Wilford Leach.
