Enid Nemy
ENID NEMY was a feature writer, reporter and columnist for The New York Times for nearly 40 years beginning in 1963, writing New Yorkers Etc. for over a decade, the Broadway column for seven years, and writing and editing Metropolitan Diary. Her interviews ranged from Queen Noor to Benigno Aquino, as well as scores of theatrical personalities; her feature subjects included feminism, battered children, drugs, senior citizens, sexual harassment and education; and she wrote obituaries on such figures as Barbara Hutton and Chanel. She reported from Southeast Asia and accompanied President and Mrs. Reagan abroad, including the 1982 Summit meeting in Europe and their 1984 trip to China. She also accompanied Mrs. Reagan during her U.S. campaign against drugs. Her awards include honors from the New York Newspaper Women's Club, the New York Newspaper Guild and Women in Communications. Miss Nemy was born in Winnipeg, Canada, attended United College and University of Manitoba and began her career with The Canadian Press, an affiliate of the AP; the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; and The Mid-Ocean News in Bermuda. She was married to S. Ralph Cohen, a vice-president of the Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS); he died in 1983. Miss Nemy is on the board of Lighthouse International and is president of the Dorothy Strelsin Foundation.
