ELLEN RICHARD, Roundabout Theatre Company’s Managing Director, began at the Roundabout in September of 1983. She is directly responsible for all aspects of Roundabout’s $40 million budget, oversees a staff of over 100 full-time employees, and oversees production, marketing, finance, human resources, real estate and all administrative departments. She is the lead negotiator for the theatre with theatrical unions and artists’ representatives. She pioneered innovative subscription series, including singles, wine tasting, teachers, gay and lesbian, family and early to bed. Ms. Richard is the Director of Design and Construction for Roundabout, responsible for overseeing construction, renovation, and restoration of the theatre’s multiple venues including the Union Square Theatre (formerly the Christian C. Yegen Theatre), the Laura Pels Theatre at the Criterion Center, the Kit Kat Klub at the Henry Miller Theatre, The American Airlines Theatre, Studio 54, and the new Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for theatre. She is currently finishing a black box theatre at the Steinberg Center. Ms. Richard serves on the Executive Committee of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) as well as LORT’s collective bargaining committees with the unions for directors, actors, and designers. Ms. Richard has won 5 Tony Awards for the shows Sideman, A View From the Bridge, Nine, Assassins and the long-running hit revival of Cabaret. Prior to the Roundabout, Ms. Richard was the Theatre Manager at the Hartman Theatre in Stamford, CT, Business Manager of the Westport Country Playhouse and Business Manager of Atlas Scenic Studio.
