CHRISTOPHER BURNEY is the Associate Artistic Director of Second Stage Theatre where he has also served as the Literary Manager and Dramaturg. At Second Stage he has worked with such artists as Edward Albee, Theresa Rebeck, Eric Bogosian, Paul Weitz, Craig Lucas, William Finn, Sam Shepard, Kenneth Lonergan, Martin Sherman, August Wilson, Michael John LaChiusa, Jo Bonney, Gary Hines, Mark Brokaw, and Kathleen Marshall, among others. Recent productions at Second Stage include The Little Dog Laughed (Douglas Carter Beane, playwright; Scott Ellis, director), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Swimming in the Shallows (Adam Bock, playwright; Trip Cullman, director). Previously, he worked at Lincoln Center Theater developing musicals including Hello Again, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Carousel, and Violet. He worked on the inaugural season of Encores at City Center helping to produce concert versions of Fiorello and Allegro. He served as the New York Theatrical Consultant for the film company Dreamworks, SKG. He has helped produce special events for The Actors Fund of America, The Town Hall and 890 Broadway. He has worked with emerging writers at Musical Theater Works, Dixon Place and Peculiar Works Project. In addition to his work in theatre, he currently teaches at Barnard College and Columbia University. He is a graduate of Brandeis University, B.A., and Columbia University, M.F.A.
